Camp Trinity 2011 - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Camp Trinity?
For over twenty-six years, members of Holy Trinity Parish have organized  Camp Trinity as a weekend of activities and quiet, of solitude and fellowship, of prayer and games, of meeting old friends and making many new ones. Held at a historic hotel, Virginia House, on the grounds of Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs, Virginia, the weekend’s program includes faith and fun activities for all ages with your Holy Trinity family, including morning and evening prayer services, an ice cream social, soccer and capture the flag games, hayrides, an evening dance, and lots of time for visiting old friends and making new ones. Camp Trinity offers an extensive program of spiritual, educational, and recreational activities for adults and children. Each participant is expected to help out by donating time during the weekend to one or more of these activities.

I’m not into camping; how rustic is Camp Trinity?
Not very.  Located at a historic summer camp, campers are housed in hotel rooms with private bathrooms, linens, and towels.  There are no televisions, radios, or telephones in the rooms.  Meals are provided at the Virginia House and programs are held inside.   Teens do camp together in unheated bunkhouses with separate shower facilities located up the hill from the Virginia House.

What are meals like? I have a picky eater.
Menus are determined by ShrineMont and served in the communal dining room. For between-meal snacks and picky eaters, the Hospitality Room is open all times except during meals.  Campers provide hospitality snacks, and peanut butter & jelly, cheese & crackers, fruit and veggies are always available.  Refrigeration and microwaves are not available.

Who can participate?
All members of Holy Trinity Parish are welcome at Camp Trinity.  Programs are designed for all walks of life, and the weekend is richer with a diverse community participating.  While it is possible for children to attend with another family, each situation is decided on a case-by-case basis, and is dependent on registration numbers.

How can I help at Camp Trinity?
Camp Trinity is a cooperative effort which offers an extensive program of spiritual, educational, and recreational activities for adults and children.  Volunteer committee members of the community coordinate the programs and supervise activities for children and youth.  Some participants in Camp Trinity attend each activity on the program; others prefer to use the weekend as a time of relaxation and reflection.

With such a rich program, many volunteers are needed.  In order to divide the responsibilities and to avoid overburdening a small group of attendees, each adult is expected to volunteer for one task or a minimum of one hour during the weekend.

How do I volunteer?
Please review the volunteer choices and indicate your preferences on the volunteer assignment form. Parents with children or teens at Camp Trinity will be assigned to a children or teen’s program volunteer slot.  If all the volunteer slots have been filled, we will assign you to your next volunteer choice.  Late registrants will be placed in volunteer positions most needed and not necessarily given their chosen volunteer assignment.  Please indicate if there are times that are not possible for you to volunteer (e.g., you know you are arriving late on Friday night) so that we can place you in a volunteer position that works for everyone.
