Job Seekers History

The Job Seekers' Ministry at Holy Trinity is a support group for people who are unemployed, primarily due to the most recent economic downturn. Other members are under-employed, or employed but looking for new work. The group has been meeting weekly since January 2001 when our then pastor, Fr. Bill Byron, S.J., took an interest in ministering to those who were undergoing changes in careers and employment. His book, Finding Work Without Losing Heart has been a source of good practical information for many of our parishioners looking for work. The free Cyberspace Edition can be accessed through http://www.sju.edu/academics/hsb/resources/findingwork/
The group has grown as the job market continues to be affected by a poor economy. The sessions address practical issues including career assessment, resume development, networking, and interviewing as part of the group's mission. Many members of the group have been blessed with success in finding jobs, but still others need your help.
Many parishioners already have assisted in helping our Job Seekers. They have donated resources to our library on how to find employment and some have come to address the group and offered practical advice and information on how to approach the current job market. We are indebted to their generosity and welcome any other volunteers who are able to provide pertinent job searching information.
