Volunteer Reviewers Needed for Small Grants Application Review
The Social Justice Ministry this coming January will begin the 2012 application review process for small grants to direct service organizations. Parishioners serve the critical role of grant reviewers and make the final determination on which agencies are recommended to the Pastor for funding.
The Social Justice Ministry invites Holy Trinity parishioners to get involved as 2012 grant application reviewers. No experience is needed - just a modest commitment of time and a desire to ensure Holy Trinity funds are used to support those organizations that have the greatest impact on the poor and marginalized in DC.
Prospective reviewers will attend an orientation session Saturday, February 11, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Neale Room or on Monday, February 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. in McKenna Hall. Reviewers will read 1-2 grant applications, conduct a site visit with a small team, complete an evaluation, and attend a review session on April 28 from 9-11 a.m. in the Neale Room to rank the agencies competitively for funding.
To sign up as a reviewer, or if you have any questions, contact the Social Justice Small, Direct-Service Grants Chair, Joyce Forrest, at FJoyceR@msn.com. More details later in December.
The Tithe at Holy Trinity
The parish collective financial response to the community’s social justice needs is the parish tithe. The parish annually commits (tithes) 10% of the parish’s ordinary parish contributions to serving people in need. The Social Justice Ministry serves as philanthropy steward for the parish.
The 2011 tithe of $364,200, based on 2010 ordinary parish contributions, was distributed to twelve Jesuit and educational organizations and through a comprehensive review process to twenty-five community organizations that provide direct service to the homeless and margialized and in a recenlty added category called Investment and Partnership Grants, to four advocacy organizations who advocate for the homeless and affordable housing. 2011 Grantees (PDF)
